Haute Community

Haute Student of the Month: Jana

Each month we talk with one of our students so they can share their experience with others.  This month we’re chatting with Jana.

What do you love about Haute Barre?

I love the class styles and the instructors, but I also love the community. I have made many friends at Haute Barre who support me in both the studio and in my daily life. They keep a smile on my face even during the toughest workouts.

What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed?

The muscle definition in my shoulders and back continue to surprise me. My cardio endurance has also improved from the Haute Shake-It Fusion and Barre Boxing class formats.

What part of class do you love to hate?

The “Up-Down” sequence with burpees that is repeated four times in Jarod’s boxing class. Enough said.

What advice would you give to someone coming to Haute Barre for the first time?

Make sure to try different class styles and different instructors. Every class and instructor is unique, and your body will benefit from the variety of options and techniques.

What motivates you to come to class?

I feel so much stronger both physically and mentally since I became a Haute Barre member 4 years ago. That combined with Monday night nachos at Rojo keep me committed to my classes.

What’s your favorite fall activity?

Hiking around Lake Superior and rewarding myself with red wine around the campfire.

Haute Student of the Month: Shari

Each month we talk with one of our students so they can share their experience with others.  This month we’re chatting with Shari.

What do you love about Haute Barre?

Absolutely everything! The studio has such a welcoming atmosphere and great energy. The instructors are all amazing, inspiring and challenging in their own unique way.  The total body workout you get in each class is fun and super addicting!

What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed?

I have gained so much strength, muscle tone and confidence.  I feel so much better mentally and physically.  I’ve also lost 22 lbs since January!

What part of class do you love to hate?

There are a few but chair pose is always the one that gets me.  I have definitely noticed improvement since my first class and always try to push myself a little more each time.  When I’m in the pose I try to remember that shaking is good and the burn will go away!  I do my best to smile and keep pushing through!

What advice would you give to someone coming to Haute Barre for the first time?

To stick with it and know that each class will be challenging in a different way.  It won’t get easier because you will learn to push harder in each and every class.  It’s your workout and you can modify or intensify where you need to.

What motivates you to come to class?

Each class is different so it’s fun not knowing what pose will be next or what the cardio sequences will be.  The instructors are encouraging and get to know you more in each class. It’s never boring and I feel so energized when I’m done!  I never thought anything could motivate me to get up at 4:30am but I was hooked the first morning I came to Haute Barre!

Haute Student of the Month: Georgia

Each month we talk with one of our students so they can share their experience with others.  This month we’re chatting with Georgia.

What do you love about Haute Barre?

The welcoming, encouraging environment with the members and instructors, the diverse workouts, and the full body burnout that each class provides. Every class challenges me in some way or another.

What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed?

How toned my arms have gotten. My arms have always been the weakest part of my body so it always amazes me to see the muscle I have built through doing barre class.

What part of class do you love to hate?

Chair Pose. No matter how often I do it, it is the one move that is always extremely hard.

What advice would you give to someone coming to Haute Barre for the first time?

After my first class at Haute Barre I was shocked at how challenging the workout was. It does not get easier because you are constantly pushing yourself, but it does get better as your body gets used to the moves and builds muscle.

What motivates you to come to class?
It has taken me a while to find a type of workout that I love to do. I have been coming to Haute Barre since March 2016 and I absolutely love it! The results that I have seen is huge motivating factor.

What Does Haute Barre Mean To You?

What Does Haute Barre Mean to You?

Last week was the ending to our pre-holiday challenge.  We were thrilled with how many chose to participate! We could feel the buzz in the air, spirits were lifted, a little fun side challenges along the way and so much more comradery.  The stars on the charts started filling up fast!

You could earn bonus stars for weekly challenges and because of all the excitement, we decided to ask a question to earn the stars for weeks four and five.  We asked, “What 3 words would you use to describe Haute Barre?” and “What inspired and motivated you to participate in the Challenge?”   Here are some of the responses we received:

Exhilarating. Sweaty. Satisfying.   – Alexis

MY WEDDING MOTIVATED ME!  To feel uber confident trying on wedding dresses (check and check!!) and also to stick to something for once. – Corin

FUN! ENERGETIC! INSPIRING! – Libby

I went into the challenge thinking it was just a fun thing to do. I was surprised by how adding the morning class as part of my day was easier than I thought. I feel better with more energy. In addition to more energy, my lower back pain is gone!!!  That makes me happy!    Thank you for this challenge, I loved it!  – Jennifer

Challenging, Exhilarating and FUN!!!! – Corin

The holidays coming up and wanting to be in great shape for the winter! – Libby

Encouraging, Welcoming and Positive – Kendyl

Inclusive, Comfortable, Motivating – Suzie

Challenging, Inspiring, Motivating – Monika

And, of course, there is nothing like an awesome Haute Barre tank to wear as a badge of accomplishment!

We had so much fun with the challenge and are glad you did as well!  We hope you feel stronger and more a part of our special community.  Thank you to all who participated and we can’t wait to share with you our next challenge!

Haute Student of the Month: Kristen

Each month we talk with one of our students so they can share their experience with others.  This month we’re chatting with Kristen.

What do you love about Haute Barre?

The fact that I am always challenged and never bored with the workout.  The instructors are outstanding – always inspiring and motivating.  The overall vibe of the studio is warm and welcoming.  The familiar faces in classes.

What’s the biggest change you’ve noticed?

Increased strength and tone in leg muscles.

What part of class do you love to hate?

Using the blue bands for resistance while doing exercises laying on our side. So painful but effective.  Also, holding onto the barre with both hands and repeatedly squatting all the way down and then “halfway up.” I usually curse to myself when I hear those words.

What advice would you give to someone coming to HB for the first time?

Don’t compare yourself to others, and know there are many ways to modify if something doesn’t feel good.  Stick with classes and you will be amazed to see a difference in time.  Try to embrace the shake and hang in there.

What motivates you to come to class?

The music, positive energy of the instructors, seeing friends who attend class, and the awesome feeling I have when class is finished.
